George H. Alexander II is a Muscogee (Creek) painter, born in 1990 and raised in rural Oklahoma. He studied painting at the Institute of American Indian Arts, where art transformed into a profound tool for his personal introspection. While studying for his Master’s Degree in Fine Art at the Studio Art College International in Florence, Italy his artwork began to take on more of a conceptual approach.

“I learned that art is a conversation that transcends the object. It can start between a few people and continue to the next generation. Art objects only act as conduits for the dialogue to flow through. I believe us as indigenous people already understood this. With my upcoming work I hope to solidify that truth.”

George was recently selected for the 40 Under 40 award by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (2024) and is the inaugural recipient of the Walker Youngbird Foundation Fellowship (2024). His work has been featured in Here Now and Always at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and in The Land That Carries Our Ancestors at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.—both exhibitions curated by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith. He paints at his studio, Ofuskie Studio, located on the Plaza in Santa Fe, where he hosts open studios and continues to create his work.
