Thomas Martinez Pilnik

Thomas Martinez Pilnik was born in London and raised by Brazilian parents. Pilnik then moved to the US and obtained his BA in Studio Art and Cognitive Science from the University of Virginia and M.Ed in Postsecondary Education from the University of Southern California. He recently graduated with his MFA from the University of Connecticut.

Debuting his solo exhibitionRebirth in Paradiseat the Garam Art Museum in 2006, Seo would go on to participate in show after show and have his pieces praised at Buddhist art festivals and temples across Korea. Notably, his work earned him victory at the 18th Korean Buddhist Art Exhibition (Seoul Arts Center, 2000), and the 27th Korean Buddhist Art Contest (CentralMuseum of Buddhism 2013). Working and living in Seoul, Chilgyo Seo embarks on his next venture with a group exhibition by the Minnie Park Art Project in New York City (April, 2024) where he will bring his unorthodox installations to the international stage.

Pilnik has exhibited internationally in spaces including Zaratan Arte Contemporanea in Lisbon, Shelter in Place Gallery in Boston, The Bomb Factory Art Foundation in London, and Lauren Powell Projects in Los Angeles, and has created installations and works in collaboration with organizations such as Los Angeles Department of Mental Health and Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy. He has been an artist-in-residence at Zaratan, McKenzie Gibson Studios in Rhode Island, and Stove Works in Tennessee.
